Literacy 

Students examine how the form and structure of texts can support the communication of ideas and information.

What Did Students Do?

This week, our class had a monstrously fun time exploring persuasive writing through a creative project called Be My Monster Friend! Each student designed their very own friendly monster and then wrote a persuasive paragraph inviting the reader to become that monster’s friend.

Through this activity, students examined how the form and structure of a persuasive text help writers clearly communicate their ideas and influence their audience. They learned how to state an opinion, provide convincing reasons, and use descriptive details to support their message, all while organizing their writing in a logical and engaging way.

   September 15-19 Learning Outcomes Wellness Describe situations where responsible leadership supports the safety and well-being of self and other.  Identity rules, practice and protocols that support safety and well-being in a variety of contexts.  What Did  Students Do? On Thursday, September 18, our Grade 5 students participated in AMA Patrol training. This training was an important opportunity for students to learn about the role of the AMA School Safety Patrol team and what it means to be a leader in our school community. During the session, students explored the responsibilities of being a patrol member, including keeping others safe, modeling positive behavior, and communicating clearly with others. They also learned about the key qualities needed to be an effective patrol, such as responsibility, teamwork, respect, and confidence.       September 8-12 Learning Outcomes Literacy Apply creative-thinking processes to enhance personal expression and artistry. Create written texts for a variety of audiences and purposes. What Did  Students Do? This week, students wrote a piece to accompany their hand art connected to the topic of community. They considered these questions: What does community mean to me? What communities am I a part of? How do I feel when I am in these communities? What do I bring to these communities? They brainstormed their ideas in a graphic organizer prior to writing. Then, students wrote their jot notes into sentences. The students' writing reflects the importance of community and the positive impact this has on them as well as their impact on the people in these groupings.
