Literacy

Create texts that express personal feelings and ideas based on prior experiences and knowledge.

What Did Students Do?

This week, our class focused on a powerful writing activity inspired by Terry Fox. Each student wrote a personal letter to Terry, sharing how his incredible story of bravery and determination continues to inspire them today. In their letters, students reflected on how Terry’s Marathon of Hope reminds them to stay strong, keep going when things get tough, and believe that one person can make a difference. They wrote about how his journey motivates them to work hard toward their goals and to support important causes, just like Terry did. This activity allowed students to connect with Terry’s story on a personal level while practicing thoughtful and expressive writing. To celebrate their efforts, some students will have the opportunity to present their letters during our upcoming assembly, sharing their words of gratitude and inspiration with the entire school community.

This week, our class had a monstrously fun time exploring persuasive writing through a creative project called Be My Monster Friend! Through this activity, students examined how the form and structure of a persuasive text help writers clearly communicate their ideas and influence their audience. They learned how to state an opinion, provide convincing reasons, and use descriptive details to support their message, all while organizing their writing in a logical and engaging way.
