Art

Students will refine methods and techniques for more effortless image making.

What Did Students Do?

This week, our Grade 5 students worked hard to create beautiful artwork in preparation for our upcoming Volunteer Tea. Inspired by the work of Vincent van Gogh, students explored a Post-Impressionist style while creating their own iris paintings using oil pastels and watercolours.

Throughout the project, students focused on refining their methods and techniques for more effortless image making. They learned how to thoughtfully plan their composition, use bold colour choices, and apply line to create emphasis and detail. By layering oil pastel and watercolour, students experimented with different techniques to bring their artwork to life while expressing emotion and creativity.

It was wonderful to see students build confidence as they practiced and improved their skills. They showed great care and effort in their work, and their final pieces are vibrant, expressive, and ready to be proudly shared at the Volunteer Tea.

This week, we delved into our anchor text for the year "I am We". We read the book and used it as a starting point for many learning activities and discussions. Students discussed the concept of community and we used this to begin talking about our classroom and lunchroom expectations and norms.  Students also shared about the various communities they are part of and discussed how they feel when in these groupings. This discussion also inspired the hand dot artwork that students have begun. Each row of d...

This week, our class had a monstrously fun time exploring persuasive writing through a creative project called Be My Monster Friend! Through this activity, students examined how the form and structure of a persuasive text help writers clearly communicate their ideas and influence their audience. They learned how to state an opinion, provide convincing reasons, and use descriptive details to support their message, all while organizing their writing in a logical and engaging way.
