What Did Students Do?
Over the past few weeks, students have been working collaboratively in small groups to design their own original gym games. This exciting project challenged students to combine creativity, teamwork, communication, and physical activity as they developed games that others could learn and enjoy.
Each group began by brainstorming ideas and discussing what makes a game fun, fair, and engaging. Students were encouraged to draw inspiration from games they already knew, while adding their own unique twists to create something new. They worked together to plan the rules, determine equipment needs, create scoring systems, and think carefully about how all players could participate safely and successfully.
As part of the project, each group created a detailed rule sheet and set of instructions to help teach their game to others. Students practiced organizing their ideas clearly and communicating effectively so that classmates would be able to understand and play their game.
This week, we had our first group presentation! The group confidently introduced their game, explained the rules, demonstrated gameplay, and led the class through the activity. Their classmates had a great time learning and playing the game while providing positive feedback and encouragement.
We are looking forward to seeing the remaining groups present their creations in the coming weeks. It has been wonderful to watch students take ownership of their learning, work collaboratively, and transform their ideas into active and engaging games for others to enjoy.
